I adore The Others series, but Wild Country isn't as good as the rest of them. Of course I really liked it, but it didn't have the heart that the previous books did, especially the first 5. ( )

I love these books about the Others. This was another excellent addition ( )

A novel in the Others sequence. Unlike some of the other books this one lacks the charm and humor that offsets the violence. In the Indigene controlled town of Bennett a number of mismatched individuals come together to help resettle the formerly Human town. There are too many POVs in this book splitting attention off from the main action.

It has its moments, mostly for people who feel nostalgic about the others.
But the story is pretty flimsy, and sprawls all over the place. The ending in particular felt stupid to me. The others are clearly terrible tacticians.
It seems to me that the author wanted this to be a western type of story, but without a too good ending. Doesn't work for me. ( )

De boeken van Anne Bishop zijn heerlijk om te lezen. Het is wel een bloeddorstige wereld, met vampiers en vormveranderaars, maar ik geniet er erg van. Jammer genoeg is er nog maar een boek in de serie over The Others en daar ga ik dus maar gelijk in door.
Dit deel gaat over het kleine stadje Bennett, dat na de aanval van de mensen op de Others onbewoond is achter gebleven. De Elders hebben besloten dat het weer bewoond kan worden, maar onder het gezag van de familie Sanguinati (vampiers) en de Gards (vormveranderaars). Onder hun gezag mogen er ook weer mensen wonen en een daar van is Jana, een jonge politieagente die als zodanig wordt aangenomen. De sheriff, Virgil Wolfgard, neemt haar onder zijn hoede, maar dan wel op zijn eigen manier. De verschillende soorten hebben best wat problemen om elkaar gewoontes en normen te herkennen, begrijpen en erkennen. Als er steeds meer mensen komen om hun bestaan op te bouwen in Bennett zitten daar ook een paar met slechte bedoelingen tussen.
Lekker leesbaar en spannend. ( )
