Welcome to the Eleventh Iteration of The Quote Game.

Bonus smugness-points if you can also tell me who is being spoken to.

“Nah … four camels, maybe four camels and a goat in a good light.”

2pinkozcat
jun 8, 2011, 8:01 pm

I'll start with the obvious ...Pyramids?

3joannasephine
jun 8, 2011, 8:21 pm

I see what you're thinking, but nope!
;-)

4justjim
jun 8, 2011, 8:24 pm

Jingo? Vimes to 71-hour Ahmed?

5pinkozcat
jun 8, 2011, 8:50 pm

Moving pictures? CMOT to i don't know who?

I can see that I am going to have to read all the books again; I'm guessing ...

7joannasephine

Jim has it. And for a smugness trifecta, who are they discussing?
;-)

8justjim
jun 8, 2011, 10:18 pm

Mrs Boggins(?) Boggers(?) The wife of the head of the guild of thieves.

BRB.

9justjim
jun 8, 2011, 10:23 pm

Here's one that gives away the subject and the person talking. All we need is the book...

'This is Sergeant Angua,' said Vimes. 'You can speak freely in front of her.'

Ah....after a frantic look through all my books, I finally found it! The Truth!!!!

14justjim
jun 9, 2011, 8:59 pm

That's it! I was expecting to have to give clues. Well done.

15joannasephine
jun 14, 2011, 4:56 pm

Inkmusic, it’s your turn to set a quote.

16Inkmusic
jun 14, 2011, 11:52 pm

Sorry, didn't read the rules. Let's see....
"We'll lock up his mallets when we get back, depend upon it," Ridcully whispered.

17ronincats

18joannasephine
jun 15, 2011, 12:25 am

The Last Continent, where the wizards start getting a bit hot under the collar at the thought of Mrs Whitlow?

19pinkozcat
jun 16, 2011, 7:35 am

Just to bump this thread up I'll suggest Wyrd Sisters.

As usual I am guessing; I think that joannasephine is probably correct. We need Inkmusic to arbitrate on this one.

20Orangez
jun 16, 2011, 3:26 pm

Yep, joannasephine is correct indeed. I think she can safely take it...

21justjim
jun 16, 2011, 3:44 pm

I'm with Minnie and Orangez. Joanna has identified that Archchancellor Ridcully and the Dean are less than comfortable about the Chair of Indefinite Studies' proposal of croquet as an alternate method of sexual attraction and breeding. The card game 'Bridge'* was earlier disqualified, requiring, as it does, four people.

*Mentioned by that actual name in this case!

22joannasephine

Hooray!

“On the other hand, it could be your money and your life. Pulling off the double, you might say.”

Mort perhaps?

24Artur

25joannasephine

And here was me thinking it would puzzle you guys for a while! Edrandrew has it, it was indeed Mort.

26edrandrew

Orangez has it.

31Orangez
jun 19, 2011, 2:53 am

Alright, here goes:

"It is traditional, when loading wire trolleys, to put the most fragile items at the bottom."

32edrandrew
jun 19, 2011, 4:20 am

At the risk of falling for the obvious Reaper Man?

33Orangez
jun 19, 2011, 4:46 am

Mmm.. that easy huh?

Go for it mate!

34edrandrew

You have it joannasephine.

Yes, Soul Music it is.

42pinkozcat
Redigeret: jun 21, 2011, 8:06 am

Yeah! I've been re-reading some of my Pratchett books.

This one should be easy.

*grin* my spellchecker didn't like that one

43Artur
jun 21, 2011, 4:21 pm

Thud!, perhaps?

44pinkozcat
jun 21, 2011, 9:11 pm

Thud ! it is. Over to you, Artur

45Artur
jun 21, 2011, 9:51 pm

Great! How about this one-

"Death was nonplussed. Most people were, after the initial confusion, somewhat relieved when they died. A subconcious weight had been removed. The other cosmic shoe had dropped. The worst had happened and they could, metaphorically, get on with thier lives."

83justjim
jul 2, 2011, 6:36 am

That would be a bit harsh!

84joannasephine
jul 3, 2011, 2:44 am

Fair enough. Emulating the behaviour of the Lancre Reciprocating Fox, we (or I, if Pinkozcat doesn't like the idea) pledge to move my bestowal of goes around as large a segment of the LT community as are currently engaged in this game and have not recently had a go (of their own or someone elses).

Better?

85pinkozcat
Redigeret: jul 3, 2011, 7:24 am

I think that is a very good idea but since you were the person who got the last quote correct I think that perhaps you should nominate the first person to post a quote since SockMonkeyGirl has not, so far, picked up the baton.

Or perhaps you should also nominate her and leave her a private message.

94Kittybee
jul 6, 2011, 2:06 pm

Okay, here it is - with names left out.

103Artur

I don't know why this just seems like a quote from a Tiffany Aching book.

Or is it when Nanny is explaining the Long Man to Casanunda? Lords and Ladies?

185pinkozcat

Not having a clue (I can't imagine Nanny Ogg being embarrassed by anything), I'll opt for Equal Rites.

This is from a book which my son grabbed off the shelf before he got shot in his video game. It happens to be one of my favorites.

213KayEluned

Maskerade?

214joannasephine
aug 9, 2011, 8:42 pm

Or is it Wyrd Sisters? I remember it’s in reference to Nanny wearing Greebo around her neck as a variation on the old foxskin stole.

215MrsLee
aug 9, 2011, 11:57 pm

Nope, KayEluned has it.

I knew it wasn't too difficult, and joannasephine, you have the context exactly!

216KayEluned
aug 10, 2011, 7:33 am

Ok here goes.....

'And, of course, if we DO fail, then things won't be that bad, will they? If we fail to com back, there won't be anywhere left to fail to come back TO in any case, will there? So it will all cancel out.' He gave a happy little smile. 'Logic is a great comfort in times like this, I always find.'

Or perhaps a dragon powered vessel bound for Cori Celesti (via the moon) in The Last Hero?

219pinkozcat

220KayEluned

Hmmmm - she doesn't really wish at the moment - still trying to settle into her new apartment. But I have been reading a discworld book and this line appealed to me.
