This is a beautifully illustrated book. The text is in an unusual position on the page which adds to the mysterious allure of a story whose possible interpretations are many. This is a perfect mentor text for exploring themes and could be used in classrooms from upper elementary to high school. ( )

This is a beautifully illustrated book about a blind dog, and a bird that is hurt and unable to fly. The dog helps the bird get around, and feel like it is flying while the bird becomes the dog's sense of sight. The disruption happens when the bird is tempted by a fox, and convinced that the fox can run faster, and is more agile than the dog, and that it could make the bird really feel like it was flying . The bird, was gave in, and was tempted by the urge to feel like it is flying again. The bird gets its wish for a moment, until the fox leaves the bird far away. the moral is to appreciate the people that care for you, and to not take them for granted, because people will try and take what you have away from you out of spite. I could point out that if the fox really just wanted to give the bird the sensation of flying, it could have simply just done that, and maybe even just become friends with both the bird, and the dog, but jealousy makes us blind to more positive outcomes and possibilities. Fox is the story of one dog and a bird, they helped each other to complete what each was missing. The bird was hurt from a wing and the dog was blind from one eye, so the bird helped him see and the dog helped the bird go around. However one day a fox appeared trying to convince the bird to go with him, but the bird didn't want to until one day he convinced the bird. The bird was extremely happy because he climbed to the fox's back and he run so fast that he thought was flying. Suddenly, the fox shock off the bird from his back and left him alone in the dessert. This story is very sad in the way that you can't tell why the fox acted the way he did, but this makes the students create their own conclusions about how each of the characters would feel during the story.
