They were called Easy Company, but their mission was never easy. Immortalized as the Band of Brothers, they suffered 150% casualties while liberating Europe, an unparalleled record of bravery under fire. Dick Winters was their commander, and this is his story based on his wartime diary. Only Winters was present from the activation of Easy Company until the war's end. On D-Day, Dick Winters parachuted into France and assumed leadership of the company when their commander was killed. He led them through the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany, where they liberated an S.S. death camp from the horrors of the Holocaust and captured Berchtesgaden, Hitler's alpine retreat. After briefly serving during the Korean War, Winters was a highly successful businessman.--From publisher description.… (mere)

Fantastic 1st person account on Easy Company in WWII. Major Dick Winter's 1st person view of the harrowing account of war with his team was gripping, honest, and humble. Watched the HBO mini series "Band of Brothers" and was neat to put the book to the TV series. Major Winters candid and detailed information was fascinating ( )

Beyond Band of Brothers was written after the success of the TV mini-series, and is very much geared towards those already familiar with the activities of 101st Airborne, Easy Company. Though the book's narrative is not as engaging as Stephen Ambrose's original Band of Brothers, Major Dick Winters provides a clear-headed first-hand perspective and some welcome real-world wisdom. The author's remarkable personality is the book's greatest assest, and one of its most valuable sections comes at the end when Major Winters outlines his rules for leadership. Recommended. ( )

Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Infantry has kept me fascinated ever since I saw the HBO series Band of Brothers. I have wanted to learn as much as possible about them. About 5 years ago, I listen to Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters of Major Dick Winters as an audiobook. There were many lessons that I wanted to keep in front of me so I decided to buy a printed copy. It's one of the first books I read in 2018. Read more ( )

If you liked the "Band of Brothers" video series and Stephen Ambrose's book it was based on, this would be the logical next step to pursue. All I can say about Dick Winters is that he was one of those people without whom America would not be the great country it is. He is an example for us all. He is so cool, calm and collected about everything: slow-moving shrapnel striking the shins doesn't break the skin but you will be rolling around on the ground in pain for a minute or two; soldiers pulled out of the front lines don't need a weak or two to recuperate, that will just get them in trouble - two days is adequate: enough time to get caught up on sleep, a warm shower, clean clothes, and a few hot meals.
