1286 and Hugh Corbett is sent to Scotland to investigate the death of Alexander III by the Chancellor of England, Burnell . Was his death on a stormy night murder, and if so who by. And does this action threaten England as the Scottish throne is left vacant with various fractions vying for this prize.
Enjoyed the story, a nice quick and easy read. ( )

Anyone interested in English medieval murder and mystery will enjoy this series. This is the second book about the medieval sleuth Hugh Corbett, who works for the Chancellor of England under King Edward I. Sent to Scotland to investigate the death of the Scottish King Alexander III, Corbett is met with suspicion as he investigates on the orders of his master. The book is rich in historical detail of places, characters, and events. An exciting plot, but at times the character's speculations become complicated, taking over the plot, and slowing the pace of the book a bit. ( )
