The main character builds a paper boat and sails it down his street while it rains. He loses the boat, and it's ruined. His dad helps him to make a paper airplane, and he goes outside to fly it when the rain clears.

This is a story about a bird that does not want to share the spot that he is sitting on the pond. However, this ends up coming to bite him in the neck.

I would have slept with this book under my pillow when I was a kid.

Almost entirely wordless. (I believe the only word in the book is "Hi", used twice on one spread.) I love the way the illustrations blossom into colors as a friendship develops between the two kids.

Note: I received a hardcover copy of this book from the publisher at ALA Midwinter 2018.

A young boy who has trouble making friends at boarding school sneaks out in the middle of the night to accept an invitation to a special party. A ride on the back of a giant turtle to an island tea party with forest creatures gives him an amazing story to tell.

Beautiful illustrations that have very little need of text puts the reader right into the story, sharing the child’s loneliness and his joy at finding new friends.

This book has not words and large artwork, it is a easy book to read by small children. The story is about a boy that move to a new house, and is building a special place for him, but this catcher his neighbor's curiosity, and end up helping with the project. Good book for showing how to build new friendships, and cooperation.

A very nearly wordless story of a boy living in a group home, who sneaks out at night and has an adventure with his pet turtle (grown enormous) and other wild animals before returning at daybreak to tell his story to the other boys.

This book by Daniel Miyares is a wordless picture book waiting to be put in the hands of someone to bring the story to life. The fiction has simple illustration waiting on a broad imagination. The book is easy to follow and flows into a cute wordless picture book story.

Great stuff on how even the smallest of us can contribute, as well as cooperation, teamwork, and friendship.

This book is filled with emotion, from the colors, to the characters expressions, to the meaning behind the story. There is a father son bond that is relatable to many students, and all students in different ways. The pictures are very interactive and there are many ways to include the book into a curriculum. The front and back covers display a step by step guide on how to make an origami boat, which could be a fun activity for the kids! The setting also takes place in the rain so the book could be read on a rainy day.

I can't resist a good wordless picture book. This story of a boy and his paper boat is delightful. Thematically, it's a cousin to The Snowy Day, but the pacing is more frenetic. I am drawn to the textures in the illustrations and I love the limited palette. Did you notice that the paper that becomes the boat has a picture of a sailboat on it? Astute readers who do will then pick up on the twist at the end. My only complaint: the placement of folding instructions on the endpapers will be the bane of librarians who want to tape the book jacket on. The cover boards are different from the jacket, and so simply removing it isn't an option. There appears to be sufficient space outside of the flaps for the instructions.

A young boy, the only one still awake in his dormitory late one night, spies a mysterious invitation in this mostly wordless picture-book from Daniel Miyares. Sneaking out the window and biking away, he meets up with a friendly turtle, who escorts him to a magical tea with a group of woodland animals. After a wonderful night out, the boy returns to his school with a marvelous tale to tell...

I expected something quite magical from Night Out, given the beautiful cover art, the fact that it involved a turtle (always a plus!), and that I enjoyed the illustrations in P.I. Maltbie's Bambino and Mr. Twain, the only other work of Daniel Miyares' that I had previously encountered. The artwork here, done in gouache and colored pencil, did not let me down! This is a beautiful book, one in which the visuals are more than capable of telling the story. Given that this was so, I found the minimal text here unnecessary at best and distracting at worst, and think the creator made a mistake, in not making this a wordless picture-book. Recommended (with the caveat that the artwork is much stronger than the words) to young dreamers who imagine nighttime adventures, and to Daniel Miyares fans.

This wordless book is helpful for young children and allows them to be creative in creating their own story. It also teaches children how to do an origami boat and airplane. This story can be related to the classroom by implementing weather because the little boy changed outfits depending on the weather.

This is a sweet reminder that everyone, no matter how big or how small, has a part to play in our world. This story will resonate with small children who are often told they aren't big enough to do something. This story tells them that even if they are small they can still save the day.

I enjoy the complexity of this story, how it includes a tyrannical figure who is saved by a seemingly insignificant one. Equality is also a topic when in the end of the story all the bugs get their own pedestal made from the rocks that the king grasshopper rejected. This is a good example of difficult topics being simplified so students can begin to understand the differences between controlling and conductive behaviors.

This picture book tells the story of a young boy building a paper boat on a rainy day. Until the rain washes his boat away and he decides to go inside, where he gets the idea that next he will build a paper airplane, once the rain goes away. This book uses contrasting colors to show emotion.

A boy's small paper boat and his large imagination fill the pages in this wordless picture book, a classic remake on the rainy day adventures. As his paper boat travels through the small river the little boy embarks on all kinds of adventures as he tries to catch up to his boat. This book allows the students to invest in the book to follow step by step the boat as it twist and winds its way down the small river and through different adventures.

A boy makes a paper boat one rainy day. He carefully takes his paper boat to a puddle to play. His paper boat is swept away by a storm and is rushed down a drain. The boy goes on a hunt for his paper boat, but the water has flattened his paper boat. The sad boy returns home, where his father warms him up, dries him off, and shows him the sun is beginning to shine. The boy sets off on a new adventure.
This wordless picture book was so enjoyable. This book can be used to help students practice inferring and predicting what will happen in this story. Students can also write their own stories to go along with the pictures. This book also contains pages at the beginning and at the end that teach students to make the paper boat and the paper airplane, so teachers could pair this activity with this book.

A king grasshopper wants a throne to loom over his bug subjects, so he calls his bugs to get him the biggest rock . One by one, the bugs bring him the biggest rocks they can carry, but one little bug can contribute only a very small pebble. The grasshopper king shuns the little bug. But when his throne is in danger of tipping, it was the little bug's pebble that helped save the tower of rocks from tipping over and the king grasshopper was thankful to him.

Provides children with the knowledge that we need to be nice to one another and that sometimes the thing you might not want at the time might be the most impact and useful later on. Its important to treat everyone equal! This would be an interesting book to read to older children and see their take on the book.
