This is a story about a bird that does not want to share the spot that he is sitting on the pond. However, this ends up coming to bite him in the neck. ( ) A little yellow bird grows progressively more cross as his dry patch in the pond gains a heron, a frog, and a turtle, each declaring "Pardon Me." as they impose upon his island. When a fox approaches, the bird loses it completely and lets out a rude diatribe that successfully chases everyone away. The bird's solitary enjoyment of the island is not long lived, however, as the fox was actually trying to voice a warning and the island turns out to be the back of a hungry alligator. I love the saturated color in the illustrations and the way the colors change to reflect the passing of the day as the book progresses, ending with sunset and twilight colors. I also did not see the bird's demise coming which added to my enjoyment. The endpapers are part of the story with lone yellow feather floating on the pond at the end. Purists might quibble about the alligator incorrectly showing bottom teeth rather than top teeth but I doubt that most will notice. Pardon Me is a 2016-17 South Carolina Picture Book Award Nominee. The book was about a small yellow bird that thinks he has a lily pad on water all to himself. More animals keep joining the bird on the lily pad and the lily pad gets really crowded. The small yellow bird gets very frustrated that all these animals are joining him on this lily pad. The bird thinks that that he should be entitled to the lily pad and he should have it all to himself because he was there first. All of the animals leave the lily pad at the same time and the small hello bird has the lily pad all to himself again. Soon the hello bird finds out that the lily pad wasn't a lily pad, it was an alligator's body part that was sticking out of the water. All the animals, including the yellow bird were invading the alligator's space. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
