While the story lacked a real coherent flow, i couldn't stop reading it - it made me have so much more respect for the average NFL player -- this sport is brutal!

Written by a very young man, with all of the positives and negatives that implies. I'm reminded of the Ray Romano joke about his son: "he brags about things he should never admit."

But it's fairly essential from the standpoing of watching the NFL, both in terms of knowing the (human) costs associated, but also in terms of understanding how management works there. All the secrets of why good teams succeed and terrible teams are terrible are right here.

There are a few time Jackson's style get's a bit carried away, but for the most part, it works. The NFL as a surreal experience of pain and violence is just devastating. The injury reports in particular are chilling.
