Bonnie Christensen was born in Saranac Lake, New York in 1951. She received a bachelor's degree in theatre and communication from the University of Vermont. She worked backstage at Joseph Papp's Public Theater, the Actor's Studio, and other studios in New York City for 13 years. She also wrote vis mere several plays that were produced off-off Broadway. She was an author, artist, and book illustrator. Her first book, An Edible Alphabet, was published in 1994. She wrote and illustrated a number of picture books including Django: World's Greatest Jazz Guitarist, Woody Guthrie: Poet of the People, Fabulous: A Portrait of Andy Warhol, The Daring Nelly Bly: America's Star Reporter, A Single Pebble: A Story of the Silk Road, and Elvis: The Story of the Rock and Roll King. I, Galileo af Bonnie Christensen
Pleasingly illustrated, narrative of Galileo's life, told in first person, from his youth to his old age. Book focuses on his physics experiments, the adaption of the telescope & development of the microscope, and his discoveries in astronomy. Back matter includes a science-related timeline and Galileo's experiments, inventions/improvements, discoveries, and a glossary.
Maybe this story will help inspire other children with injuries, illness, or disability. A poetic biography, beautifully illustrated, told with short descriptive and active sentences, bringing us to a different time and different culture. A time of hard work and country life. A people who enjoy music, dancing and celebration. Abandoned by his father, Django scrapes by as a street musician, then plays in dance halls. A fire scars his hands and the doctors say he'll never play again. He pulls himself out of his depression and practices, forcing his hand to start to obey him. Months go by. He is again part of the music.
The end pages include a summary of the rest of Django's life, Notes on the Roma, more information about some of the historic items which readers might not be familiar with, a bibliography (for adults) and a selected discography.… (mere)

Not a great book for readalouds because of the importance of small images. It would be great for kids who love puzzles and codes.
