Michael Benedikt (2) (1935–2007)

I picked up this volume because it included Georg Kaiser's The Raft of the Medusa, a play of which I had read excerpts and had been searching for the full text. I was not disappointed in that play, a kindred spirit to Lord of the Flies, but with Expressionist flair. I was also pleased with the variety offered by the other entries, ranging from the stylized presentation of a real-life story in Dr. Korczak and the Children to the radio play Incident at Twilight to the truly bizarre Let's Eat Hair! to lesser-known works by noted playwrights (The Tower by Peter Weiss of Marat/Sade fame). A worthy read for anyone interested in German or Expressionist theatre.… (mere)
