5608. American Dreams The United States Since 1945, by H. W. Brands (read 15 Jan 2019) This is the fourth book by Brands I have read and, as I found the prior books, is an easy and well-researched and attention-holding book. It begins with the events of 1945 and wends its account through all the fascinating events that involved this country since that time, up to 2010. Since I followed all the events closely during those years, there were not too many things new to me but it was rewarding to live again all those eventful years. I of course enjoyed the account ot the events which I welcomed at the time, such as Truman's 1948 triumph, Kennedy's election, the successes of LBJ, Watergate, Carter's victory, the fall of the Berlin Wall and of the Soviet Union, Clinton's victories and Obama's election. He also covers social trends which one does not get by just following the news and I found his account of such full of interest. This was a good book and I am glad I read it. Brands writes clearly and is never dull. ( )
