This is a story about an old rabbit journeying to the wishing tree in the snow to wish for peace on Earth. On his way to the tree he meets many of his neighbors and they want to know what he's doing. When Mister Rabbit tells them that he is on his way to visit the wishing tree, they all rush to join him so that they can wish for selfish things. In the end this book delivers a message of never giving up hope for big unselfish dreams.

This book tells the story of Mister Rabbit who every year at the start of winter walks and visits the Wishing Tree. Along the way, he meets his neighbors-the squirrels, skunk, fox, deer, cardinal, - and they join him on their way to the wishing tree. Each one of them wishes for something for themselves. This varied between food, and a new home. Eventually they find out the Rabbit wished for peace on Earth. They think he is foolish since his wish has never come true. He explains that this is because it can only come true once someone else wishes it too. All the other animals feel bad and apologize and so Rabbit excuses them and continues to walk home.
