I completed [Seadogs: An Epic Ocean Operetta] by Lisa Wheeler. This book has been on my shelves for ages. It is a sort of picture book/graphic novel, with a very exciting and entertaining tale of adventure on the high seas featuring all canine characters! The story is portrayed as if it is being performed by a canine cast, viewed by a doggy audience. This is so hilarious and fun, I can imagine it playing out on the stage. (RandomCAT June) ( )

Summary:
Seadogs is a book of a collection of poems which all reflect the topic of the sea, pirate ships and buried treasure. Aside from the poems are a clips which resemble those of a comic book. These clips include dialogue between "the crew" which are shown through the illustrations.

Review:
Seadogs is a great book of poems for children who are interested in the pirate aspect of the sea. The book could be used as a nightly read before bed as there are many poems which all relate to each other, but would be difficult to read all in one sitting. Some of the poems are written on "buried treasure" maps and scrolls. Each page is filled with comic book like illustrations which appeal to many children. Poems use level appropriate language and literary references. ( )

Gilbert and Sullivan, by and for dogs, in comic strip format. This is a very very odd book, but fun. The action happens mostly in pictures or in "songs" (no music is provided), so you have to pay attention. The songs scan well and there are nice little jokes. Plus dogs + pirates + comic strips = cannot possibly lose with my kid. ( )
