Gothic Lolita Punk.

Who knew there was such a thing? I definitely did not know.

This was fascinating. This book showcases the artwork of several artists who create art in the Gothic Lolita Punk genre. This is popular in Japan.

At first, it looked like punk with color. There's an awful lot of Alice in Wonderland themed artwork in here. The more you look at these pictures, the more you see. They are all a bit creepy. Some are subtly creepy. The girl looks beautiful and innocent but then you see the chains, the bats, the spiders. . . .I especially liked the human woman made to look like a doll with doll-like jointed knees and elbows. There's a rice cooker in the background, a scale, an old fashioned phone. . .

What I have learned - Gothic and Lolita is a Japanese subculture. Gothic Lolita refers to girlish Lolita fashion, which encompasses the Victorian era, ruins, the occult, the grotesque, and the bizarre. The book explains Black Lolita, Classical Lolita, Cyber Gothic, Gothic Punk, Punk Lolita, Red Lolita - the list goes on and on. Fascinating.

As the intro says - Dangerous but Cute.

From the pictures and illustrations, I learned that there are alot of ways to make art. I also learned that there are alot of different styles, techniques, and ways to make a beautiful pieces of illustrations. Such as digitally, painted, drawn & scanned. The book itself has step-by-step tutorials on most art pieces, so I've learn lots of different ways to draw!

I think people who likes Gothic Lolita and Japanese alternative fashion would like this book. It even has a interview with a well known alternative DJ. I think people who like to draw anime, and espacially the gothic style would like this book too, since it has different techniques to teach you. ( )
