Firstly, this text is strategically organized for its readers to understand the information. On each page, there is never too much information. Therefore, it is very easy to understand and stay focuses on the topic of that page. The author also never combines information and puts several topics on one page. That could confuse the reader so I think that is a smart strategy. One page says “Sharks don’t have any bones in their bodies. Their skeletons are made of easy-to-bend cartilage. It is just like the cartilage you have in your nose and your ears.” This is very relatable and clear for the reader.
Another reason this book was so great is that the pictures are real, and show many different sharks in their habitat. The images take up the whole page on every single one, and it is very engaging for the reader because they can visualize the information they’re reading about. On a page where it talks about their food and eating habits, we see a picture of two sharks feeding on their prey that stretches across two pages. This was a very appropriate picture that relates to the topic at hand.
Finally, the information presented is clear, concise, and to the point. The vocabulary and sentence structures are very age-appropriate for the targeted audience. One page says, “Sharks don’t chew. They swallow each bite whole. After a shark has a meal, it may go for weeks before it eats again.” The text size is also definitely a large size, and that makes it easier to read as well. The color of the text is white, which makes it stand out on the dark underwater images presented. ( )
