In my opinion I was drawn to this good book because of its title and illustrations. The title "The Voyage of Osiris" is one that invokes curiosity when it is first mentioned out loud. This book is a good choice to read to students when first talking about other civilizations such as Egypt and the Middle East countries to show the difference in literary interests. In addition, I found this book to be well illustrated so as to not provide too many details related to the death of Osiris. The colors used throughout the illustrations made you leap back in time to the lands of Egypt and want to explore more about the country. Overall the main idea or message this text is getting across is jealousy never prevails. It is wrong to trick someone into getting what you want when you could instead work towards your goals. ( )

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for a few reasons. First, the characters are well-developed and very interesting. Children may have never heard of these characters from the ancient Egyptian myths before and this books provides a nice example for them. Second, I think that the illustrations are amazing. They aren't just common drawings or paintings so it exposes children to what may be a new type of art to them. And finally, this book pushes the reader to think about difficult issues like creation and the beginning of life. I think the big idea of the story is to explain the ancient myth of Osiris and in general explain some Egyptians beliefs. ( )

I loved this book because of the beautiful images and the understandable retelling of a core Egyptian myth. The illustrations created for this book have so much depth and really assist the author in telling the story of Osiris. On one page, the author is describing Isis transforming into a swallow, this illustration beautifully blends Isis in her god form flowing into the shape of a swallow. The language used to create this story, while historically accurate for the Egyptian myth being told, is presented in a manner that allows even young readers to grasp the myth being presented. The big idea of this book is to not allow jealousy to control your actions. ( )
