FLASH... FLASH... FLASH...A lighthouse signals from the rocky shore, guiding ships away from danger. Once sailors watched for giant bonfires that were set high on hills. Now, most lighthouses are fully automated. In Beacons of Light: Lighthouses, Gail Gibbons tells all about these beautiful and useful structures, using careful explanations, colorful facts, and helpful illustrations to show how lighthouse technology has developed and changed over the years.

This book gives a brief historical and scientific look at lighthouses. It gives the history of how lighthouses started as stone towers with a fire as the signal to today’s very efficient electrical lighthouses. Pictures and labels are found in the book to explain the mechanics of a lighthouse as well. I love the illustrations of all the different lighthouses found along the United States eastern sea board also. ( )

This book gives a short and simple history of beginning lighthouses and their uses up until now and the dwindling need for them. It explains in simple terms the different parts of the light, showing labeled illustrations. There are nice illustrations of different lighthouses up and down the eastern seaboard.

This is a history of lighthouses from ancient Egypt to present day. This book covers the technological advances of lighthouses as well as the lives of the people who used to live in them. This is an informative book with fun nice illustrations.

Not very good. A lot of information and no real story. I do not recommend reading this book to my class.
