12 Rounds to Glory is a book about the boxing legend Muhammad Ali.It is a book about his his life as a black boxer. In 1960 racism was still widespread so it was tough. The story starts out with a baby being born called Cassius Clay.It then transitions to him in elementary school. He had his bike stolen and claims he will fight whoever stole it.It then skips to his first boxing fight in Rome.He comes back winning gold for the U.S.A.He then racks up ten wins and then goes on to try and claim the heavyweight championship. He insults his opponent Joe Frazier.Joe defeats Clay.Clay was islamic so when Vietnam broke out he did not go out to fight. He was stripped of all his titles and spent 3 years in jail.He got out and changed his name which was the name of a slave owner to Muhammad Ali.He then comes up with his famous quote "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.You can't hit what you can't see". He goes on to win the heavyweight championship and that's where the story ends.

In my opinion this is a good book.It shows the life story of how this legend was always a hot head.He claimed he would fight anyone who messed with him and he always carried out.It shows how he taunted his opponents in the ring.He would tire them out and then he would strike. He was the matador and they were the bull.Even after 5 years of not being able to box he came out victorious. He was a true figure of black power during the time ( )

RGG: A rather lengthy picture book. The rap style of the verse can be distracting to the dispersal of information. Many, many details.

This biography about Muhhamad Ali’s life is extremely detailed. It goes into specifics from his childhood to his career highlighting fights. As a teacher, I would recommend this for a 4th grade or higher. The vocabulary is not difficult; it is just extensive in detail. ( )

The life of Muhammad Ali. How and why he became the boxer he became. All the struggles he went through and over came. The book would be great for not only Black History month but when learning about people who worked hard for what they wanted. The word choice can be difficult at time so I would recommend the book for upper elementary or middle school. ( )
