Mord for øje (2001)

First in the series and perhaps a little slow at first, but it did get exciting and brutality dark afterwards. Once I get to know the characters it became very hard to put down. ( )

Well paced mystery thriller. Although a bit graphic in the coroner sections, it seemed realistic enough. Nice development of the main characters learning about the history between Sara and the police chief Jeffrey as her ex husband. Also found Lena as the detective / sister of the victim a good addition to learning about small town southern thinking. Believe that what happened to Lena will play a part in future stories. Interesting on how the relationship with Jeffrey will be used in future stories with Sara. ( )

This was the third, or maybe the fourth Karin Slaughter book that I have read, and I was extremely disappointed. Maybe it read like a first novel, I don’t know, but I was drawn to her after the first book I read (Kisscut) and I could tell that she was an uncommonly good writer. Blindsighted, however, I don’t know what happened. The story was fairly sick and twisted, but in general I felt that it was poorly put together. Small town where everyone knows everyone as well as everyone else’s business, and then all of a sudden there are disappearances and unspeakable crimes... and then no one knows anything. The character development was frustratingly long, and I think the main problem was that every single character was carrying several novels worth of baggage each that it really detracted from the story line(s). As I said above, this was a disappointment. Enough so that when I looked for something else to read I saw another of hers, A Faint Cold Fear, and was like... nope, not now, and probably not until I am really strapped for reading material. ( )
