This is a little different from what I was expecting from the description, but still mostly enjoyable. What I mean is that it's based on the assumption that people don't like their own voices and some actively change their voices to fit a certain trend (like the sexy-baby voice that Lane characterizes). That's not me. I like my voice and always have. I've been told on many occasions that I give good phone. My entire career was based around talking to people and vocal communication and when I was in a phase of doing lots of in-person training, I actually worked on correcting and eliminating ums and ahs from my speech. Those are SO annoying to me and when a person does it enough it actually distracts me from what they are trying to say; I focus on the ums and sometimes actually count them.

Another part of the point of the book is vocal acceptance in yourself an others - I guess to not be racist or whatever when it comes to voice. Another thing I've never had an issue with. I love going to the pharmacy to hear the West-African pharmacist talk to me. I had a longtime customer from Jordan that I loved talking to although almost no one else could understand him. Audiobook narrators from Ireland and Scotland enchant me. Accents and speech patterns are endlessly fascinating and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds them that way. I even like a light southern drawl, say from the Carolinas. So peaceful. ( )
