Ein wirklich erschütterndes Buch über eine Frau, die sich nur schwer aus den Krallen eines Systems befreien kann, um sich selbst und ihre Freiheit zu finden. ( ) The Color Purple is a beautiful book, full of interesting, complicated characters. Celie goes through so many horrible things, and she makes herself so small in order to protect herself, but she is tougher than she realized when she was young and eventually she realizes how strong she truly is. The parts that I liked the least were Nettie's letters (and there were a lot of them). They were very interesting, but I think that they don't fit well with the rest of the book. This is a spectacular book, isn't it? As a white Australian reading this in 2016, I am so far removed from the world of the novel for it to be an anthropological text. Walker's literary skills are superb, leading the reader on despite the often disheartening subject matter. And I can't even explain the thrill that ran up my spine reading sister Nettie's letters about her intellectual awakening in Africa. A classic.
Walker accomplishes a rare thing: She makes an epistolary novel work without veering into preciousness. Rather, Celie's full-bodied voice emerges, a moody and honest voice, in an inherently intimate literary form. Without doubt, Alice Walker's latest novel is her most impressive. No mean accomplishment, since her previous books - which, in addition to several collections of poetry and two collections of short stories, include two novels ("The Third Life of Grange Copeland" and "Medridian") - have elicited almost unanimous praise for Miss Walker as a lavishly gifted writer Indeholdt iThe Color Purple Collection: The Color Purple, The Temple of My Familiar, and Possessing the Secret of Joy af Alice Walker Har tilpasningenEr forkortet iInspireretHas as a reference guide/companionIndeholder studiedelIn Search of the Color Purple: The Story of Alice Walker's Masterpiece (Books about Books) af Salamishah Tillet Har som supplementHar kommentartekstIndeholder elevguideHas as a teacher's guideHæderspriserDistinktionerNotable Lists
To søstres udvikling gennem tredive år belyses af breve, de skriver til hinanden og til Gud. De er fattige sydstatsnegre, og den ene bliver hjemme, mens den anden rejser til Afrika som missionær. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |
