For two thousand years a hidden conflict has been waged. Now it is bursting into the open--in a pitched battle over the very future of the planet....In the Amazon and in Africa, from oil spills to animal slaughters, the earth is being defiled, and two covert armies are locked in mortal conflict--with a reporter caught in the middle.Drawn into the mysterious disappearance of a gray-eyed stranger and his horrific murder by fire, Tess Drake and a veteran New York City police officer follow the trail of blood from Manhattan to Washington to the ancient caverns of Europe. Hunted by both sides, fighting for her life, Tess races toward the dark heart of a secret that will rock the world....… (mere)

Not a bad novel in the least, but not the best Morrell I’ve read. It came off a little heavy on the religious aspect, which I’m still not sure if it’s fact based or fiction...Also not sure if a lot of it was realistic, in that how people fall in love, and also how they survive different situations, but hey, it’s fiction right? Like I said, not the best, but not bad by any means. ( )

A well-written story, very well-paced given the complexities of the plot. Though, the ending doesn't have the same quality as the book. As if he tired of the story and just wanted it done. Overall, a lovely novel for beach reading. ( )

Torn from the headlines and prevaricated upon, this book read like a Tom & Jane thriller for the worshipers of Gaia. There is no problem in the world but that can be traced to evil business, corrupt politicians and, apparently, a complete lack of technical expertise in the entire world. ( )

This was not Morrell's best (although still better that what a lot of thriller writers can put together). Somehow, the characters were not as "deep" as characters in Morrell's better books and many parts of the plot seemed particularly dated (the book was written in 1991). If you're a big Morrell fan, you will probably want to go ahead and read this book; if you're not a Morrell fan (and why not? you should be!), this is not the Morrell title to start with. ( )
