This book almost reads like a quiet reminder to adults to remember the introverted children around them rather than a story FOR introverted children. It has a simple, direct message, and some brief cute moments, but it's also fairly bland, even at the points when the protagonist is exploring via his rich imagination. Part of this could be the art style; it's quite flat and empty and doesn't really emphasize points as well as it could. Overall, a fine little book but nothing remarkable. ( )

Emile is a quiet boy on the outside. People perceive him as shy, but he is not. Inside, Emile has a loud, very loud imagination. He roars more piercingly than the dragons, races with mighty beasts, and steers a ship through the wild ocean. But that’s not all. Even on the outside, he plays with his secret friends and paints the universe. He enjoys being alone and revels in every little thing around him. So, why is he quiet?

We picked this book for its nomination to Goodreads awards. The brilliant and playfully illustrated book describes the daily story of introverts and reassures those that it is okay. Being quiet doesn’t mean being shy.

I am Quiet by Andie Powers beautifully captures the essence of introverts with simplistic, fun illustrations. ( )

This story helps touch on the fact that some kids just like to be quiet. ( )

children's picture book (preschool and up, would work wonderfully as a bedtime read-aloud to an introverted child)
beautifully illustrated story that allows the too-often misunderstood "quiet" child a chance to shine. Don't miss the author's note at the end; Emile is based on her observations of her own introverted toddler's experiences. ( )
