Only one thing could bring DEA agent Micah McLeod back to Carbondale, Colorado: Rachel Neesham being in danger. Months before, Rachel's antique shop had been a front for crime, and she'd been a suspect. Micah went undercover to seek the truth and found out Rachel was innocent--but not before casting a veil of suspicion that destroyed her reputation. Yet in the process, he'd fallen for her. This story begins months after Rachel's antique shop had been a front for a crime in which Rachel was a suspect, but found to be innocent (her partner though was not innocent and was sent to prison). Micah was the DEA agent who went undercover to seek the truth and pretend to be someone he was not to Rachel. Now Rachel's life and business are pretty ruined so she wasn't in the mood to find Micah on her doorstep one day months later. He is there because he knows her life is in danger and wants to help her. Rachel is not real interested in getting her heart broken all over again. But the real criminal will stop at nothing to get what he wants, including hurting Rachel's children and her father. Rachel will need to forgive and trust Micah all over again because her life and those she loves depends on it. Micah also must keep his focus on his job and not on how much he wants to proclaim his feelings for Rachel. It was a quick read that keeps the danger and suspense going all the way through to the very end. It was truly how it is advertised; a "love inspired suspense inspirational romance". ( )

I think it's hard to get both suspense and romance into the number of pages that Love Inspired Suspense requires.

There may be a book prior to this one that discusses Micah's and Rachel's first meeting--if so, I haven't read it. There were numerous references to the previous time Micah and Rachel were together. This book can be read on its own without knowing the previous history.

Rachel's mistrust of Micah is believable based on what I know of their history from this book. Mistrust is a common plot twist in this genre, but at least in this book, it is a mistrust stemming from the actions of the other person rather than because of someone else's actions. I can see it being harder to trust the same person again when they've proven untrustworthy in the past.

Rachel should have warned her kids more in an age appropriate way. He son goes off with Smitty Jones because he was a handyman that helped around Rachel's and Angela's store and with Graden because he met Graden with his mother and grandfather. I think Rachel should have discussed stranger danger more at that point and told the kids they needed to check with her or their grandfather even if it was someone they thought they knew.

I was confused as to whether Kelman was Micah's boss or if they were equals. It seemed like Kelman was calling the shots in terms of manpower etc. but at one point Micah makes it sound like Kelman is not his boss.

I'd probably read more books by this author if I came across them, but I'm not sure I'd go seek her other books out. ( )

Busting a gang of drug deals would be easier than going to the door to ask for Rachel Neesham's forgiveness. Even so, Micah McLeod was back in Carbondale, Colorado, a scant hour's drive from Aspen. Last spring, he had left town to follow a trail of evidence, first to Aspen, then to Cabo San Lucas, all the while pretending his undercover assignment here hadn't rocked his world.
