K-Gr 3—This gem of a story starts with a "hi" and ends with a party, and that's all the invitation readers need. This
alphabet book spells world peace and provides a light, sparkling, even fizzy sense of well-being.

All of the letters lived in walled off villages away from each other. Until, one day a curious little h reached out to a little i and they made “hi. But , the big letters were afraid and made the walls even tighter. Will the big letters ever understand that they all need to come T O G E T H E R?
The author uses a fun play on words to talk about how letters work together to form words and people should work together to use words to help one another. This title is recommended for ages 3-7. It could be used in a story time about letter and words or about being kind. ( )

The alphabet letters each live in a walled city: the big and little H's together, the big and little I's together, etc. Until the day a small h and small i meet through a gap in the wall. Soon all the small letters are reaching out to each other and exchanging "letters." Can they show the disapproving big letters that coming together is a good thing? "How do you tear down walls? With words at first. Then brick by brick." ( )

Initially, I thought I was just requesting a book to teach my daughter the alphabet, boy was I wrong. This is an absolutely adorable way to introduce the fear of the unknown and those that are different from us. Every Little Letter is a great example of breaking down established barriers to really look at each other, we see how we can build each other up instead of being swaddled in isolation, complacency, and even fear. This book also shows how children are usually the best parts of ourselves and willing to welcome those that are different.

I would highly recommend this lighthearted but meaningful story and this is a book that I would purchase a physical copy of to read to my daughter. Thank you to Penguin Young Readers and Dial Books for the opportunity to read Every Little Letter as a digital ARC – all opinions are my own. ( )
