THE RETURN OF KING LILLIAN is a new hero's journey for dreamers of all ages. When Lillian, the one and only heir to the throne, is cast out of her kingdom by malevolent forces, she accidentally wanders into the Forest of Forgetfullness, where she is rescued by wolves and raised by an eccentric old wise woman. When Lillian comes of age, she is called by Destiny to return home. The trouble is, when she steps out of the Forest, she has no memory of who she is or from whence she hails. Undaunted, the spirited, self-reliant young woman sets off into the unknown, determined to rediscover her long lost self and to reclaim her stolen birthright. Most of the tale is told by Lillian herself as she chronicles her extraordinary adventures. This offbeat debut novel, written and narrated by multi-media artist Suzie Plakson, is an allegorical saga full of comedy, calamity, and a host of unforgettable characters. Early readers and listeners have compared it to such books as THE LAST UNICORN, THE ALCHEMIST, THE PRINCESS BRIDE, and THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING.… (mere)

I really liked listening to The Return of King Lillian on audiobook, it is a fantasy/fairytale book and I enjoyed the magical elements to it. The storyline itself was strange as it starts kind of in the middle of the story, in the forest of Forgetfulness, so obviously she doesn’t remember anything prior to arriving in the forest, and then the beginning is explained at the end, but it did tie up a lot of loose ends and wondering at that point, why she was banished in particular. The main character Lillian tells this story, and she does actually tell it by telling a book about her adventures while writing in it, I did like this element a lot, like a diary of sorts and each chapter she told about another day another adventure all while on her journey to find her home

It is definitely something I think middle-grade age kids would like to read or listen to but also older kids and adults too.
Overall it was light and I enjoyed the adventures.
It was also nice that the author also narrated it.

This book is a delightful journey, beautifully written with an engaging main character. The fairy-tale world that this book takes place in is unique. Following the travels of Lillian will be a fun trip for young adult readers. ( )
