I have read numerous books by Winter Renshaw--I've yet to be disappointed. Renshaw tackled death, organ donation, and starting over in a unique and intriguing way yet staying true to who the the characters are. Astaire appears to be the stereotypical Kindergarten teacher. A woman who looks at the silver lining and has a cheery disposition even in the face of the numerous pitfalls in her life. A run in with a dark brooding stranger changes her life. Bennett learned the hard way not to trust anyone especially his own family. Being raised my a narcissistic manipulative mother taught him to never show his feelings or weakness of any kind. A chance encounter and a sympathetic email causes him to lash out in anger thus beginning an exchange. Once those stop--he's at a loss. He needs Astaire's help. He soon realizes he also needs her. I loved this complicated book! To people meet in a bar and through a misunderstanding become leery of each other. Astaire is a brokenhearted schoolteacher with the sudden death of her fiance' that she finally agrees to a blind date to meet at a bar only she thinks the man a couple of seats over is the man only to be verbally abused by the man who thinks that she is hitting on her. I felt sorrow for Bennett who had a hard time growing in a wealthy family with no love, his mom only cares about how her status with her friends will be perceived, his dad is all about making money and furthering his corporation, while his older brother wants to take everything he wants including his girlfriend. Bennett is bitter and now that he's in charged of the corporation now his brother wants to be involved. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
The first time I saw him was at a bar called Ophelia's on a misty Thursday night. I was there to drown my sorrows after a trying day, he was there to escape the storm. After a brief yet incredibly cruel exchange, the handsome stranger bolted before I had a chance to tell him off. Incensed and two cocktails deep, I followed him out the door, determined to give the audacious Adonis a piece of my mind. Tearing after him in heels and barely able to keep up in the freezing rain, I ended my chase when I realized where he was going. They say never to judge someone unless you know their story. I never could have anticipated his...And I never could have anticipated the way our paths would cross again--or that I would one day find myself falling for a man with a hollow cavity where his heart should be, a man as callous as he was beautiful, as complicated as he was mesmeric. They say never to judge someone unless you know their story. This one's ours. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |

This is frustrating for me in regards to writing a review of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the first quarter of this story but then it went down hill from there. When certain mysteries came up , I assumed they'd be explained later on. However, there were several that were just glossed over or just fizzled in the explanation. It made the promise that the first part offered diminish which is sad because there was so much potential there. I mainly kept reading just in hopes it would all make sense but sadly it didn't (especially the health issues and explanation of Beth).
I appreciate the author and congrats on her five year publiversary but this is definitely not my favorite. ( )
