Bestselling author Laurie Faria Stolarz's thrilling novel Jane Anonymous is a revelatory confessional of a seventeen-year-old girl's fight to escape a kidnapper??and her struggles to connect with loved ones and a life that no longer exists.

Seven months.

That's how long I was kept captive.

Locked in a room with a bed, refrigerator, and adjoining bathroom, I was instructed to eat, bathe, and behave. I received meals, laundered clothes, and toiletries through a cat door, never knowing if it was day or night. The last time I saw the face of my abductor was when he dragged me fighting from the trunk of his car. My only solace was Mason??one of the other kidnapped teens??and our pact to one day escape together. But when that day finally came, I had to leave him behind.

Now that I'm home, my parents and friends want everything to be like it was before I left. But they don't understand that dining out and shopping trips can't heal what's broken inside me. I barely leave my bedroom. Therapists are clueless and condescending. So I start my own form of therapy??but writing about my experience awakens uncomfortable memories, ones that should've stayed buried.

When I ask the detectives assigned to my case about Mason, I get an answer I don't believe??that there were no traces of any other kidnapped kids. But I distinctly remember the screams, holding hands with Mason through a hole in my wall, and sharing a chocolate bar. I don't believe he wasn't really there and I'm determined to find him. How far will I have to go to uncover the truth of what happened??and will it brea… (mere)

Now POV is the aftermath; the "return to normal life". The question remains, is it a return to "normal"? Nothing will ever be the same. Even Jane's parents are changed: Dad throws himself into work; mom doesn't know how to reach her daughter and begins to regress.

Then POV takes the reader on Jane's kidnapping journey. The horror inflicted on her; the budding "romance" with fellow kidnappee Mason. Is he real? Is he a figment of her imagination, pressing her to survive and find a way out, to escape? Or is it a mind trick

The author weaves a spellbinding tale of horror, suspense, fear, the desire for Jane and those around her, to find herself again or to discover who she is now. There were times that I put down the book, not wanting it to end, but then picking it back up to keep going, pushing Jane on to survive.

I liked how the author, right from the start, stated that it was Jane telling her story, in her way. Not through a therapist, or through her parents. She knew the only way to get the truth out was by putting it down in a book. Of course, it also begs the question, what memories were really/what memories were based upon the trauma she went through. Was it all real or was it a lie? ( )

This is a riveting book that would be a great discussion starter for a book club or a high school classroom. Very well-written and engrossing, with a relatable MC. I enjoyed it very much. CW for abduction, psychological abuse and manipulation, coercive use of drugs, sexual assault. ( )

This book was a very interesting read. The main character is a very unreliable narrator and I loved her as a character. It was amazing to read the Then and Now sections of this book to see what had happened and how she was working to handle the trauma. I highly recommend this story. ( )

A powerful and harrowing story of survival and the fortitude of one's mental strength after trauma. The author crafted in great detail the journey of the protagonist after their abduction and their attempts of becoming whole once more, returning to the person Jane was before they were taken.

This was a very dark, deep, and painful story of PTSD, psychological anguish, emotional and physical trauma, panic attacks, and shedding the label of victim.

My gripe about this story is that I could not believe that every person in this girl's life was selfish, self-absorbed, and apathetic. There was no sympathy towards Jane, let alone empathy for what they have and are continuing to go through. The constant demand for the main character's love, affection, attention, even though it is detrimental to their own well-being, was mind-boggling.

The so-called best friend, horrible. Mom and Dad, stereotypical cookie-cutter characters that were just so pushy.

The author made an authentic, three-dimensional protagonist but did not do the same for the supporting characters. Everyone was just flat and straight-up cruel.

Nobody matched the protagonist's memory or description which she would constantly reiterate how they were supportive and loving before she was taken. That was never showcased throughout the story upon her return and that was very frustrating to read. ( )

The author does a great job in taking us back to Jane’s time in captivity, and her life After. It reminded me of the book “Room”, but this one had more haunting depictions of torture and believe it or not, the grieving process and the effects of PTSD. When Jane was captured and fought her abductor, my pulse quickened and I felt her desperation to fight along with her. I felt her stark loneliness and struggle to stay hopeful while she was in captivity. After she came home and a well meaning person tried to console her, I cringed at their sentiment and knew it wouldn’t be received well by Jane. There were many passages that were raw and unflinchingly honest, and it was refreshing to read them. Unlike other readers, I didn’t see “the twist” coming, so when it was revealed I felt shock and betrayal along with Jane. ( )
