Excellent historical romance set just after the Battle of Trafalgar. More than just a romance, this story includes political intrigue, burglary, and a mad dash to save someone from the gallows. It also includes a cross-dressing MC and a transgender side character. But under all that it's a glorious romance. I love to see a man determined not to succumb falling in love in the hardest way. This is well written with the historical detail dropped seamlessly into the narrative. Jeremy is a darling from the very first time we see him. He's as sweet as can be but he's also strong, taking everything life throws at him and still coming out the other side with no dimming of hope or any sense of bitterness. David is another matter. He has a set of rules designed to keep people at arms length (even those he holds most dear) and at first his actions make him seem like a complete bastard, But as the story continues we learn he is nothing like the person he projects. He's passionate, loyal, an excellent friend, and desperately trying to protect himself from further hurt. I'd love to see more of these characters. A prequel story for the secondary pairing, perhaps, or a love interest for the transgender character. Whichever or whenever, I'll be there to read it. Highly recommended. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
The year is 1806. Bastard-born jewel thief David Lambert has few rules in his personal life. Never bed the staff, never more than once with the same man, and never, ever, kiss. Attending an aristocratic party and relieving some of the wealthy of their possessions should be easy, but in the space of a weekend, one by one all his rules are shattered by a footman with a secret. Jeremy Naylor thought he had found the man of his dreams, the one man who might understand him. Someone passionate, handsome, and respectable. But in one shocking moment his world is destroyed, and he is forced to run for his life. Flung together to escape the hangman's noose, the passion between David and Jeremy burns fiercely. But Jeremy yearns for respectability, and David refuses to admit what lies in his heart. Will they find a way together, or will their differences lead them to the very brink of disaster and the shadow of the gallows? Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |
