This book was better than I anticipated it being.

It is told from a character on one side of the wall. And he thinks danger is on the other side of the wall. Little does he realize all the danger that does lurk on his side of the wall (rising flood, alligator, etc). And is the other side of the wall really that bad? I'm going to try this out in storytime and see how it goes.

One thing I will say--people saw political messages in this book. I'm usually very in tune to that. And believe me, I did NOT have that first thought come to mind. I can see how it is there on second read through (some say it is a rebuttal to Trump's wall). But I don't think kids will pick up on that. Which is okay. Let them engage the humor of a character almost getting eaten instead. ( )

Summary: This book talks about how a boy is divided by a wall in the middle of the book. It protects him from a monster but soon realizes the right part of the book is much safer than the left side. He realizes the monster will not hurt him and becomes very happy with the monster.
Reflection: We, as a society, hope this "wall" will protect us from whatever is on the other side when in reality sometimes our side of the wall is more dangerous. I think this is a good book for young children. It will help them identify presumptions and how we can become prideful at times. ( )

As the book is appropriatly titled, there is a wall in the middle of this book. The idea seems to me like leavin your comfort zone and venture into the unkown. I'd have this in my classroom for how versatile the imagery is.

There's a wall in the middle of the book, and our hero, a young knight is sure that the wall protects his side of the book from the dangers of the other side like an angry tiger and giant rhino, and worst of all, an ogre who would gobble him up in a second! But our knight doesn't seem to notice the crocodile and growing sea of water that are emerging on his side. When he's almost over his head and calling for help, who will come to his rescue? An individual who isn't as dangerous as the knight thought from a side of the book that might just have some positive things to offer after all!
