Gold is wealth. Wealth is power. Power is a curse. King Midas once had the ability to turn all he touched into gold. But after his gift-or curse-almost killed his daughter, Midas relinquished The Touch forever. Ten years later, Princess Kora still bears the consequences of her father's wish: her skin shines golden, rumors follow her everywhere she goes, and she harbors secret powers that are getting harder to hide. Kora spends her days locked in the palace, concealed behind gloves and veils, trying to ignore the stares and gossip of courtiers. It isn't until a charming young duke arrives that Kora realizes there may be someone out there who doesn't fear her or her curse. But their courtship is disrupted when a thief steals precious items from the kingdom, leaving the treasury depleted and King Midas vulnerable. Thanks to her unique ability to sense gold, Kora is the only one who can track the thief down. As she sails off on her quest, Kora learns that not everything is what it seems-not thieves, not pirates, and not even curses. She quickly discovers that gold-and the power it brings-is more dangerous than she'd ever believed. Midas learned his lesson at a price. What will Kora's journey cost? From author Annie Sullivan comes A Touch of Gold, the untold story of the daughter King Midas turned to gold, perfect for fans of Cinder and The Wrath and the Dawn.… (mere)

It is a good addition to the story of King Midas, however, the writing style is simple. This is a great book for a teen or young adult. ( )

*I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts*

I really enjoyed this read. I thought it was fun balance between political themed novel but also a sea adventure story. I really liked the pacing of this book and thought it was fast pace story. This book is not super long but quite a punch. I really loved the main character Kora in this read. I also really like how the myth was formed and loved the romance that was built in the story. I really am excited for book two! ( )

A quest of mythical proportions to steal back enchanted gold from a bloodthirsty pirate!

Kora is King Midas’s daughter, and what remains of his cursed Touch lives on in her skin. Afraid of her own abilities, she isolates herself inside the palace, and rumours abound in the kingdom and beyond about what she could be capable of. But when someone breaks in and steals her father’s original cursed gold objects, she has the chance to finally see the world as she sets out on a sea voyage to track down the gold alongside the charming Duke Aris Wystlinos, who may be the only person who can truly understand what it’s like to be cursed.

Facing down pirates, thieves, sirens, and men who would use her to get rich, Kora learns more about herself and the people around her than she ever could have from inside the crumbling walls of the castle.

I was a bit slow to get into it, but by then end I was completely absorbed and loving every moment of the action! When I found out there was a sequel, I was worried the ending would be left open, but thankfully that wasn’t the case. Now I’m adding the next book to my list so I can find out how they get rid of the curse altogether! ( )

I thought this was a one and done until the last chapter. It's not.

I like the premise of the King Midas's daughter being still damaged by his curse. But Kora was sometimes just too naive for me to appreciate. ( )
