This story of love, caring and friendship is based in part on a true story of a rescue dog named Charlie. I reviewed this book for my website and I really loved it! It teaches kids what's really important in life - and that quite often comes in the package of four furry paws! This book is sweet. It shows real-life dilemma for a child: should she lie and say she did something wonderful or share the truth.
Maggie has a big problem. Tomorrow is summer vacation show-and-tell. All of her classmates know exactly what they are going to talk about. But Maggie doesn't have any idea what she can share. She could say she went on safari, or hiked the South Pole, or zoomed into outer space to Mars and the Moon. But the truth is, Maggie didn't travel during the break. The day is nearly over and Maggie hasn't found anything to bring to school...until she remembers something special about the months of summer. For children ages four to eight and pet-lovers of all ages, Maggie and the Summer Vacation Show-and-Tell is a story of love and compassion. Mrvos¿ debut children¿s book was inspired by Charlie, a deserted dog that was rescued on a country road by a friend. Charlie¿s remarkable story is included as well as a discussion guide for starting conversations about summer vacations and caring for pets. No library descriptions found. |

Follow Maggie’s heartfelt show-and-tell that reveals the unconditional love she shares with her dog, Trooper. This story of love, caring and friendship is based in part on a true story of a rescue dog named Charlie.
Nervous anticipation and excitement mount as the new school year begins. Maggie’s imagination soars when her teacher announces summer vacation show-and-tell is the following day. She could say she hiked to the South Pole or went to Mars but the truth is she didn’t go a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e.
As Maggie discovers all of the interesting trips and happenings her classmates will share, she realizes she has n-o-t-h-i-n-g to share. Her vacation was cancelled when her family discovered Trooper, a three-legged rescue dog that was hurt and needed their help.
Favorite line-“I didn’t travel during my summer vacation, but this summer something special traveled into my life.”
The illustrations, done in watercolor, are expressive and convey the many feelings Maggie experiences throughout this story.
Two added bonuses at the back of the book:
Charlie’s story is shared, including real-life pictures.
A discussion guide is included with great questions and discussion items. ( )
