The book when Sophie thinks she can't is about a little girl who struggles with doing things. Her sister makes fun of her because it was easy for her to do the puzzle. By the end of the book Sophie figures out how to do her math problem and she made a rectangle like everyone else with the encouragement of her peers. Ages4-8

This was an excellent book that addresses themes of perseverance. Sophie thinks she can't do things, especially math puzzles. But, when she goes to school, her teacher tells the class what the most important word is: YET. She reminds her students that brains grow and get stronger and that if they can't do something is because they aren't there YET. This was a great book to remind my students that they can do anything they put their minds to, it might just take time. ( )

This is a great book for children who are struggling in school or life. If children are having a hard time thinking they can this book will be a great one to boost their confidence and encourage them to try. Age 3-7 Pierce County Library

This book discusses self growth and also rectangles and squares. Sophie believes she can’t solve a puzzle and she constantly says she can’t do it. However, with the help of the peer characters and the math teach Sophia discovers that she can.

This book would pair good with the math curriculum when learning about shapes and how to help children believe they can do something in math. I like the confidence the book conveys to readers after Sophie discovers she can do puzzles. I also like how in the book their is a picture of a square and a rectangle. The square says, “rectangle with a sides equal” and rectangle says,” 4 side, 4 right angles, opposite side equal length and parallel”. As a teacher you can elaborate more in a math lesson on what the square and rectangle says . ( )
