The alien Thing from outer space, which first appeared in Space Case, arriving on Earth at Halloween and blending in with the trick-or-treaters, returns in this second picture-book adventure. Buddy McGee, the Thing's human friend, eagerly awaits its promised return, supposed to occur at Christmas. After some delays, and a few threats from some unpleasant neighbors who don't believe his story, Buddy's alien friend does appear...

Somehow, although it boasts the same droll artwork and offbeat sense of humor as its predecessor, I didn't quite enjoy Merry Christmas, Space Case as much as I expected to. It was funny, but not chuckling aloud funny, like the first book. I did like the fact that Grannie and the Thing got along so well, and enjoyed talking about science with one another, and I did enjoy the artwork. Maybe I just expected more, given that this was a Christmas tale? Anyhow, despite being rather lukewarm myself, I think young children who enjoyed the first book about this little alien might also enjoy this holiday sequel, and it is to them that I would recommend it. One of my favorite read alouds for Christmas and the Scholastic video is pretty good too. ( )

This is a cute book about a boy named Buddy who has to go to his Grannie's house for Christmas. The boy told his dad he cannot go because his friend from outer space will be at his house for Christmas. Buddy's parents told him to leave the thing from outer space a note with directions to Grannie's house. While Buddy was waiting at Grannie's house, he had to play with the neighbor boys who were mean and wanted to see the thing from outer space. The thing eventually shows up and Buddy and the thing chase the mean neighbor boys down the street. This book is probably a good read aloud, but once readers become more advanced, they can re-read it themselves.

This book is about a little boy named Buddy McGee who has a friend from outer space that is coming to visit him for Christmas. No one believes Buddy that he has a friend from outer space not even his friends. When Christmas day finally arrives, Buddy's friends pick on him all day because they think he is lying about his outer space friend. By the end of the day Buddy's friends almost start beating him up but his outer space friend comes to the rescue and turns Buddy's mean friends into snowmen! Finally, they apologize to Buddy for not believing him and Buddy and his friend from outer space fly off together.

This book is about a little boy named Buddy McGee. His dad told him that instead of staying home for Christmas, they were going to his Grannie's house. Buddy was really upset about this because his alien friend from outer space was going to come and visit. When Christmas Eve rolled around, Buddy left directions for his friend and went to his Grannie's. When Christmas morning came Buddy was sad to see that his friend had not yet arrived; but his alien friend did shpw up later and they had a wonderful Christmas. This book would be good to read if a teacher was doing a unit on space and aliens.
