Fiction. Literature. Science Fiction. Would you be prepared to work for free? How would you like to bust your hump for a large corporation sixty-plus hours a week without a wage or a single day off for the vague promise of some mysterious perks in the distant future? You'd refuse point blank, wouldn't you? But what if the job in question was playing a state-of-the-art fantasy MMORPG game? And what if this was the only thing you're really good at? Especially considering that your in-game partner is someone really special to you-and this person already lives a virtual life? Knowing all this, would you consider the mysterious future bonus worth your while?… (mere)

Viser 2 af 2
goblin vampire with his sister. Very nicely written. ( )

Things I liked:
* the basic character premise (you take a survey and the game company matches you with a character race and class)
* the feel of the game itself - I'd play it if there was a real single-player option
* the character the MC gets assigned is a goblin herbalist (sounds like an interesting twist, right?)

Things I didn't like:
* the MC does very little as an herbalist (so much for it being an interesting twist)
* the actual plot of the book, especially the "real world" stuff
* the lack of any difficulty the MC faced in the quests
* the lack of any difficulty from the MC being a vampire
* the way the 14-year-old girl acted and spoke like she was decades older than 14
* the writing style
* the way this game company which knows everything else didn't do a background check to figure out that the MC had already tried the game once before, and even though this is supposed to be a one-person-one-character game he got to start over again with the new character assigned to him
* the ending challenge has even less difficulty than the one at the beginning of the book
* the MC can use his herbalist skills (remember, the skills he uses very minimally) to create exactly the potions he needs (which look like high-level potions)

As you can guess, in my opinion this was a good premise with a very poor execution. ( )
