The little girl at the heart of this story lives between two worlds. On one hand is her house, where she lives with her Latin American father and North American grandmother. Her mother is dead. Here there are many beautiful things, lots of books and plenty of money. On the other hand is her other grandmother’s house, where her cousin lives with her own mother and many others. This is a Catholic household, where material possessions aren’t especially important. Here the house is always full of people #150; those who live in the house as well as those who come by for a generous afternoon feast and a good gossip. Despite the child’s many possessions at home, she loves the Catholic world in which her cousin lives. She is especially fond of the icon of the baby Jesus and a moonstone rosary. She is also envious of her cousin’s forthcoming First Communion. All these feelings come to a head when she steals the rosary and, while she must confront her awful feelings of guilt, she realizes that she is a very lucky child to be able to move between two such wonderful worlds.… (mere)

Cousins, is about a young girl who lives with her father and grandmother When she visits her other grandmother and cousin she learns about their religion, Catholicism. This book would be great to use to teach children about different religions and cultures. When reading I couldn't help but think of "I love Saturdays y dominoes." I think it would be good to read these two books together to show comparing and contrasting cultures on both sides of a family. ( )

I LOVED this book. It was based on couins living in two very different households. It also included some information about Catholic. Most of the information was from a childs point of view but it was cute. I brought some light to the hispanic culture and ways. ( )

This book is about a girl whose mother has died and she lives with her father and grandmother. She visits her other grandmother who is catholic and learns about that grandmother and her cousins beliefs. I would share this book with my students to teach them about other cultures and religions. I think it is important to learn about all cultures and religions even if they are not your own. This book teaches about forgiveness and accepting people no matter what the differences between you are. ( )

A young girl lives with her father and grandmother Mimi. Her home is fully of warmth, books, and food. She has cousins who live with her grandmother Abuela Adela. This home is still full of warmth and love but they do not have as many material items. Her cousin at Abuela Adela's is about to make her first communinion and the young girl is jealous because she is not Catholic. The young girl is feeling impulsive from jealousy and steals Abuela Adela's precious rosary. She is feeling horrible for this "sin." The story is resolved when the young girl talks to a priest about her sins and when her family finds out they are very understanding. This book seems like it is about the good Catholic religion can do for you. Though the story is good, I would choose not to read it in a classroom. I know that there are many other books that are spiritual and multicultural with out being so related to a specififc religion. ( )

The narrator of the story tells us about her grandmothers and how different they are, her cousin Mariana, lives with her grandmother Adela, while the narrator lives with he grandmother Mimi. Mariana is raised Catholic so she is having her communion and the narrator of the story is jealous of her so one day she decides to steal her Grandmother Adela's rosary. One day Her grandmother Mimi goes to grandmother Adela's house to bring back the rosary. The narrator admits she was wrong. This is a goo book to introduce values, the rights and wrongs of things.
