This ended up being a really sweet book. I'm amazed that Ruby Dixon can completely change my mind about Bek and make him likeable. Elly had a really rough life, but she's really strong and durable in her own way. I'm glad that Elly and Bek found each other. Their story is interesting and I really liked reading it. ( )

I only wish this had been longer. Sigh. I loved Bek and I thought he ended up with the perfect woman. Their relationship developed naturally and unhurried. I do think he should have gotten more credit for actually rescuing the women from way worse. He did specify women who were in trouble and headed for worse. Anyway, love the series, keep it coming. ( )

Bek's story.

I think most readers of the series have had a dislike for Bek since we learned more about him esp from Claire's book. But slowly as the series has progressed we have seen a different side to him. He is kind to his sister and he is patient with the children.
In the last book he secretly paid for the captain of a ship to deliver women to the planet to be mates for the remaining single males. These women were going to be bought from the slave market, stolen from earth. This raises some interesting issues. Bek and his people have no concept of slavery so cannot understand what this would really mean for someone.
I expected Bek to resonate with a strong, possibly loud forth right woman who would be eager to put him in his place but Ruby Dixon has been very clever in picking Elly. She does not speak, has been a slave for 10 years and due to her treatment while captive trusts no-one.
The way they both learn to be better people along their journey toward each other is beautiful.
There are sweet moments about others the tribe and funny misconceptions of understanding the human culture. 'Shunning' as an example.
We also now have a group o four women who may be available to resonate with the single males. Gail, Brooke, Summer and Kate who is up next. Vaza is adorable, but i think he may not get Gail as he thinks. ( )
