Lots of detailed art to lose yourself in with this wordless story of friendship and kindness.

Picture books without words are really special - especially when the artwork is as friendly and captivating as this. Little ones (and adults too!) will love examining all the detail on each page. It totally makes me smile. Also, the book is so full of heart. The giving/sharing/trading/compassion message can't be beat. ( )

This book has no words, it will allow small children to read from the images. I found the artwork a little busy for very small children, but it is very colorful and that might get them engage. The story is about a little fox taking a stuffed fox from a little girl, and what started as a stolen toy it ended with a message of shearing. ( )

This book is a short, wordless picture book appropriate for preschool and younger primary grades. According to Scholastic Book Wizard, this book is Pre-K to K, 1-2 level with appropriate scaffolding. The theme focuses on the importance of being selfless and putting others' needs before their own.
The story begins with a child bringing in her special stuffed animal for show-and-tell, and a real fox on the playground takes him away! Wandering deeper and deeper into the forest, they come across a tall hedge with an archway. A beautiful village of miniature stone cottages, tiny treehouses, and woodland creatures lies ahead, providing an amazing adventure to find the missing fox. When the fox comes to the girl's house, she gives him the fox stuffed animal back, while he gives her a unicorn stuffed animal to replace the fox. This sweet exchange allows for the fox to have his own stuffed animal as well as the girl with her unicorn.
I would use this book in a unit primarily about wordless picture books, illustrations, or the beauty of words through pictures. For children that are more visual or artistic learners, these types of books can act as a sweet model of how their creations can tell a story without words. In addition, I would have children create their own stories through drawings, crafts, etc. and have them show a friend, family member, or teacher their story and strengthen their interpersonal abilities as well as creativity.
I absolutely loved the childlike, cartoon illustrations in this book. I have not had much experience with wordless picture books, but I felt that as a child I would have absolutely loved this. I had a strong attachment to my own stuffed animal, so I think this story would be a great story to share with a child that has a love for their stuffed animal.
