Gives young kids information about deaf students in easy to understand words and sentences. It tells them about tools and sign language the deaf use to communicate. It tells students that sometimes the deaf are born that way and sometimes they lose their hearing because they got sick. It helps to deter curious students from asking questions to the deaf student and teaches them that they have to use certain tools to hear.

This book talks about people that are deaf and how they communicate. It also talks about what kind of adaptive equipment that is used when you are deaf.

I love this book because I think it is a great read for young students. Some children do not understand the differences in other people and I think this shows a great example of how people, who are deaf, are different. Not only does the book talk about how people are deaf, but it also discusses how they have gotten help or what they do to communicate, such as sign language. The book also tells the reader about things that deaf people depend on such as, "Flashing lights tell them it is time for class." The purpose of this book is to inform the readers about deaf people, why they are deaf, and how they cope with being deaf. This is an easy read for young students and is definitely a kind of book I will have in my own classroom. ( )
