I love Dan Santat's illustrations. They are so simple and beautiful. ( )

Nicholas was afraid of many things, yet became a brave person with his dinosaur. He took it everywhere until it was lost one day and his bravery was lost with it. Dad reminded him it was okay to be scared sometimes and after helped him search for his dinosaur. His bravery returned once he found the dinosaur and this was a secret that was kept between the two of them. This book can be related to most children since they feel secure when they have something that they love. ( )

"Dad And The Dinosaur" is about a young boy named Nick and his toy dinosaur. When Nick has his toy he feels very brave just like his Dad. He is able to climb rocks and score soccer goals. But, one day Nick loses his dinosaur at the soccer field and his courage quickly fades away. Nick's Dad takes him back to the field to find the dinosaur. Nick puts the toy back in his pocket and shares a special moment with his Dad. I liked this book because it shows a strong father-son relationship and promotes bravery in scary situations. ( )

Dad and the Dinosaur shows Nick's struggles with bravery. He looks up to his father because he thinks he is the most brave person he knows. Nick begins to draw his bravery from a little toy dinosaur so he can be more like his dad. When he looses his dinosaur, his dad assures him that everyone struggles to feel brave sometimes and that he is not alone. During scenes he has his dinosaur, the scenes are bright and happy, because he has confidence. During thr scenes where he looses his dinosaur, the scenes are dark and scary, with things in the shadows. ( )

Some journeys are too big to take on your own, sometimes we need a "Big Brave Nick" to help us. The love and understanding between a dad and sone are unlike any other. This boys dad knew he was hurting because he lost something he didn't want anyone to know he relied on and helped him find it no matter what time it was. ( )
