Really... these "historical" novels should really stop thinking that being "ruined" was that you were slightly snubbed at some parties. They should rather develop a total fantasy world, like steampunk, then they can bend the rules if they will, but trying to set the novel to history while then actually doing no research into the time... I'm tired of it. Maybe this hit at the same point when I heard an interview of Courtney Milan, who said that writing contemporary romances is so much harder because you need to do the research on what cafes are where and stuff... I don't care if you make up a cafe, but I do care if you have no idea of the culture you're putting your characters in. This tells me pretty much everything I want to know of these kinds of historical romances... I still like the way the relationships are developed in these books. I wish I could read something contemporary from this author and I might like it a lot better. Two words come to mind when describing The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel. Pure escapism. Ms. McQuiston created a romance as epic as the characters who lived it. Mary lives her dreams through the pages of her favorite books, but has yet to experience all the emotions that her stories evoke in reality. She unwittingly lands in the middle of her own adventure when she meets Geoffrey. Her reality becomes full of twists that could rival any of her novels. Jennifer McQuiston did a stellar job. "Truth is indeed stranger than fiction" and she played that plot line to the max. It's not often that a story is centered around a heroine who a love of books, that in itself appealed to me. With easily identifiable main characters and a thrilling story, it was a no brainer for me : 5 stars. Copyright of Night Owl Reviews ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

"Every girl dreams of a hero...But sometimes only a scoundrel will do. No one loves books more than Miss Mary Channing. Perhaps that's why she's reached the ripe old age of six-and-twenty without ever being kissed. Her future may be as bland as milk toast, but Mary is content to simply dream about the heroes and adventures she reads about in her books. That way she won't end up with a villain instead. When she unexpectedly finds herself in the arms of Geoffrey Westmore, London's most notorious scoundrel, it feels a bit like a plot from one of her favorite novels. Suddenly, Mary understands why even the smartest heroines can fall prey to a handsome face. And Westmore is more handsome than most. But far worse than the damage to her reputation, the moment's indiscretion uncovers an assassination plot that reaches to the highest levels of society and threatens the course of the entire country. When a tight-laced miss and a scoundrel of epic proportions put their minds together, nothing can stand in their way. But unless they put their hearts together as well, a happy ending is anything but assured." -- Provided by publisher. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |
