Dafydd ap Gwilym was writing in the fourteenth century, about the same time as Chaucer was writing in England. This is a parallel text, and to my totally untutored eye, it seems that his poetry is easier for a modern Welsh-speaking reader to get the gist of than is Chaucer for the modern English-speaking reader. Whatever, the English language translations are a delight to read, and even the Foreword and Introduction are well worth dedicating a cup of coffee to. ( )
