Kelly Frank is EarthCent's top diplomat on Union Station, but her job description has always been a bit vague. The pay is horrible and she's in hock up to her ears for her furniture, which is likely to end up in a corridor because she's behind on rent for her room. Sometimes she has to wonder if the career she has put ahead of her personal life for fifteen years is worth it. When Kelly receives a gift subscription to the dating service that's rumored to be powered by the same benevolent artificial intelligence that runs the huge station, she decides to swallow her pride and give it a shot. But as her dates go from bad to worse, she can only hope that the supposedly omniscient AI is planning a happy ending.… (mere)

The story follows the adventures of an earth ambassador on a space station. For once a story where trade is in the focus. Lots of humor and absurd situations that reminds me in attitude to that glorious old sf novels from Harry Harrison. ( )

Enjoyed this book. I really liked the characters. The dates were funny. I found myself laughing out loud. Sci-fi is not my favorite genre so this was a pleasant surprise for me. I will probably read the rest of the books in the series. . I found it to be a really fun read! Has some adult situations. I read this book for SciFi June Readathon. ( )

Foner, E. M. Date Night on Union Station. EarthCent Ambassador No. 1. Paradise Pond Press, 2014.
E. M. Foner is one of those indie authors whose career has been oiled by easy self-publishing. Foner, an electrical engineer, began writing self-help computer repair books. Since 2014, he has been writing the now 18-book series that begin with Date Night on Union Station novella. Union Station is a huge interstellar trading hub. It is run by an almost omniscient AI and is inhabited by many different species, androids, and robots. Most humans now reside off-planet, after an unfortunate first-contact experience. Our heroine is Earth’s new ambassador to the station. She does what ambassadors usually do, help human businesses negotiate the complexities of interstellar trade. The plot begins when her impish nieces sign her up for a multispecies dating event arranged by the station AI. RomCom ensues with the emphasis on Com. It is a feel-good story that would work well as a television cartoon series. It is a bon-bon—not very filling or good for you, but tasty. 3 stars. ( )

Hilarious fluff. Likable characters, nothing particularly crude, and a gosh-that's-nice-ending. ( )

I highly recommend the EarthCent book series. Very enjoyable stories and lots of fun characters - love the various alien species! I especially recommend it to anyone who loves reading series books and getting to know characters over a span of time. ( )

"In conclusion, it is the view of the Union Station Consulate that the trade in counterfeit Earth chess sets has not been impacted by enforcement activities, and perversely, the crackdown has forced the principal actors to master molecular tagging, thus accelerating their technical competency and leading to increasingly sophisticated forgeries of other high value exports, especially playing cards and kitchen gadgets."
