A very sweet, warm little book about sharing stories and reading together. There was nothing that was a huge standout in it, but just a cute little story about stories! ( )

If I could give more stars than five, I certainly would! This is not only a delightful tale about the trials a young dragon has trying to read, it is beautifully and cleverly illustrated so that the pictures tell more story than the the words alone. Also, it happens to be about some of my favorite things, dragons, reading, and mice. ( )

The focus on the joys of reading and reading with a friend are what makes this book powerful. Duncan loves reading so much and can instill in students that love of reading by pointing out what makes books so enjoyable. I also like the focus on reading with a friend this book has and I think it would be good to use to introduce buddy reading in a classroom. The story is cute and easy to follow and the illustrations are vibrant and interesting and draw children in. There are also lots of opportunities for interactive read aloud.

Genre: Fantasy

Uses:
-introduce reading to young students and what makes it fun
-introduce buddy reading

“Duncan the dragon loves to read.” Can you imagine a better way to start this story about a dragon who gets so excited when reading, that he inevitably ends up burning his books before he can finish them. Duncan longs to get through an entire book and tries everything he can think of to keep himself cool as he reads, but nothing seems to work. Finally Duncan meets a mouse who is willing to help him out. Together they make it to the end of the book and the beginning of a new friendship. Duncan is adorable! Driscoll’s illustrations, created using pencil sketches and painted digitally, are sweet and playful. Driscoll cleverly uses the bright colors in her illustrations to guide the reader through the story.

Combining friendship, love of reading and dragons, this book would be a great addition to any story time and will be a hit with younger readers. Recommended for pre-k to 2nd grade. ( )

Duncan the Story Dragon is a imaginative tale of a dragon who loves to read. The only problem is that being a fire breathing dragon as soon as he gets excited about the book it burns up! Creative and heartwarming with engaging characters. How will Duncan solve his problem so that he can still enjoy books? Better read it to find out!

I love this book! It is sweet and fun with beautifully done illustrations that capture the mood of the story. ( )
