Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

Samuel Hoenig answers questions for a living. And as a man with Asperger’s Syndrome, his unique personality helps him ferret out almost any answer there is. But his latest question is a rather odd one—who stole a preserved head from the Garden State Cryonics Institute?

Arriving at the scene of the crime accompanied by his new colleague, Ms. Washburn, Samuel finds that what started out as a theft has escalated to murder. With suspects and motives emerging at a rapid rate, one final question remains—can Samuel’s powers of deduction uncover a killer in the face of overwhelming odds?

Mich hat das gut unterhalten. 3,5 Sterne aufgerundet. ( )

It feels a lot like a Sherlock Holmes book. My only complaint is that they don’t really get too far into the disability and kind of keep it as gumshoe rather than realistic. The protagonist seems to take everything in stride rather than get frustrated or exhibit any negative behavior. Ms Washburn even blunts the effect his condition has with communication with other characters avoiding overly awkward situations. I’d like to see more realistic interactions and a more challenging plot ( )

An excellent mystery with excellent characters. I enjoyed it so much that I stayed up 'til 4:30 a.m. so I could read it all in one go. I'm tempted to start book #2 immediately, before getting any sleep.

Note: I received a digital ARC through NetGalley. ( )

The main character was interesting, but I really had trouble getting into the story. The mystery was a little too intentionally convoluted for my taste. I'd probably try another in the series, but it wouldn't be a Must Buy. I like the author's Haunted Guesthouse series much better. ( )

Excellent book about a man named Samuel Hoenig with Asperger's syndrome who, at his mother's suggestion, makes a living answering questions at his company 'Questions Answered'. When Ms. Washburn, a female photographer, shows up at his office Samuel enlists her help photographing him swinging a baseball bat in order to provide proof of his answer to a current client. Another man arrives with a question for Samuel: Who stole the head of a client from his cryonics facility? Samuel knows he will need help in dealing with the people at the facility, so offers to pay Ms. Washburn for her assistance during the day, and she quickly proves invaluable. When they arrive to tour the facility, a staff member is found murdered and they are pulled into the investigation.

I loved that Ms. Washburn was familiar with Asperger syndrome and its effects. She showed a great understanding and compassion for the challenges Samuel faces. I really liked all the characters in the book and enjoyed their interactions. I look forward to reading more of Samuel and Ms. Washburn's adventures at 'Questions Answered'. ( )
