So sweet! Perfect for those persistent children who dont want to go to sleep.

I loved how the hoglet had a stuffed bear to sleep with and the bear had a stuffed hedgehog to sleep with. Precious! ( )

Even better than I was hoping for based on the cover! Both the story and the story within the story are well-written, and the illustrations are just lovely. I think kids will especially enjoy realizing that the book they're reading is the same book the bears in Sami's picture book are reading -- and that the back of Sami's book is the same as the back of this book.

Note: I received a copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads program. ( )

Little hedgehog Sami insists she's not tired so she asks Mama to read her just one page of her bedtime story for now. But then she continually gets curious about what Little Bear is going to do next in the book, so she asks for a little more reading before telling Mama "don't turn the page" once again. And so it goes until they get to the end of the story.

Full disclosure: I met the author of this book at a independent author event at my library. I became interested in reading this book after she talked about how she and her illustrator worked together to create the finished product. The book is a lovely one, perfect for a soothing bedtime read with its story of evening rituals and gentle pastel illustrations. It is especially fun to see the book inside the book. I shared this book a few times with my niece, and she loved seeing how Little Bear and Sami shared the same world, even though the characters didn't seem to see it themselves. ( )

This is a fantasy book which talks about how Sami who is a porcupine puts off bed time for as long as possible and has his mom read to him a book about bears getting ready for bed. I could use this book in class to talk about what my students do to get ready for bed and rituals they might have with their family. I could also use this book to talk about different animals and the difference between what they can do and what humans can do. The media in this book is colored pencil, ink and crayon. ( )

I enjoy reading books about reading. This one is particularly special because the hedgehog family is reading a book about bears. The bear family in the book that hedgehog is reading is reading Don't Turn the Page. A book within a book and very well-done. ( )
