This book was a great read with opportunities to hear new vocabulary. It followed a family on a snow day and depicted all the activities they did throughout the day. Great for classroom read aloud or early readers. ( ) I enjoyed the flow of this book of a snow day from beginning to end, and I also enjoyed the uses of the repetition of the phrase, "Snow day, ___ snow day." There are many words that describe this snow day throughout the story. Being from Louisiana, it would be hard for a student to relate to a 'snow day', but a student could relate this story to a personal event like a really cold day or a very severe weather day in which he or she has to stay home and spend time with family. I would find enjoyment in having a "Snow Day" because I could use the relaxation and rest. I liked this book for a few reasons. First, the language is extremely descriptive and uses many adjectives. For example, the author described the "steamy oatmeal" in a "brown sugar and cream bath". The story has a comfortable flow to it, describing the sequential events in the snow day. The events are realistic, from the main character looking out the window and realizing it is a snow day, to eating a warm breakfast, building a fire and playing family games. This book made me nostalgic of my own childhood snow days. The illustrations support the text in the story and are bright and colorful which attract the reader's attention. The only concern I had with the story was that there was no huge issue that was covered, and there wasn't really a problem or solution. However, the big idea/message seemed to stress the importance of family. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
