Accidental Alpha is about Lex Tompkins, an ex-cop, who is turned into a werewolf. The story is told in third person from Lex’s pov.

3.5 Stars

This is the second time I’ve read this book and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. I didn’t review it when I originally read it, but here the review now.

A quick rundown of the story because I don’t feel the blurb is completely honest in what it tells about the book. Lex is an ex-cop who was injured on the job. He’d rather retire than take a desk job and now lives, where he hoped, was far enough from people so he could go on ignoring the world. Unfortunately, fate has different plans. It sends the neighbor’s toddler who bites him on the neck, turning him into a werewolf. An Alpha werewolf. Lex is none too happy because he doesn’t want to have anything to do with others or the responsibility, but the pack is in disarray after losing their Alpha and so Lex steps in. Spencer is the werewolf Lex is attracted to, but he is wary around Lex so they don’t have much interaction for much of the story. Mia, the toddler’s mother is the one who actually helps Lex the most in the beginning. Lex has a lot to learn as he comes into his wolf instincts. There are pack members that don’t feel like they belong, which Lex needs to resolve, and trouble with rogue wolves. A lot is going on in this story and I don’t feel like the book was long enough to deal with all the issues. The problems were too easily solved, and I noticed some questions Lex asked himself were never answered, and events that happened were never explained how they were resolved. The book definitely needs to be longer.

I did enjoy the characters. They had distinct personalities even though we didn’t get to know most of the secondary characters very well. Lex and Spencer seemed suited to each other, although I would’ve liked to know what was going on in Spencer’s head at the moment, rather than having it explained to the readers almost at the end of the book.

As I mentioned, I enjoyed Accidental Alpha as much as I did the first time I read it. It’s too short for the amount of subplots involved which leads to a lack of depth and a bit of a rush to resolve the incidents too easily. But, I did enjoy the characters and the plot. I would like to give 3.5 stars, however, since Goodreads doesn’t allow half starts, which they should, I’ll rate this 4 Stars.

This is the first book in the New Pack Partners series and starts with a bang. Lex is an ex-cop who was hurt badly enough to warrant rest, not even a desk job. He bought land with only one neighbor, Spencer, a little shy guy who isn’t Lex’s type. When a toddler (one of Spencer’s friend’s kid) wanders into his yard and bites him, Lex’s entire world is thrown into chaos. Turns out now he’s the alpha of the pack that includes Spencer, and Spencer now is starting to smell so, so good.

I enjoyed this ‘accidental alpha’ situation and that being an Alpha was dependent on biting the successor. I loved watching Lex and Spencer (and the rest) learn to be a real pack. The only problem was that there wasn’t a bigger problem. There was a brief fight with another pack, but it was more of a day in the life than a true ‘standing up against a real villain’. I will definitely read more of the series. I’d love to see the other pack members find their true mates and see how Lex and Spencer run their new family.

Really enjoyed this one! Can't wait until the next book (which is really why I should wait until more of the series is out before I rush off and read something!) Anyone know when the next book is due out? ( )
