A whimsical space-opera spoof follows the misadventures of foolish but exceedingly cocksure Captain Hadria Sawback and his motley crew aboard the starship Willful Child as they plant the Terran flag on subjugated alien worlds.

A satirical take on the ridiculousness of Star Trek: The Original Series. Much better done in John Scalzi's Redshirts. Couldn't get past page 60. ( )

The best way I can describe this book is that it tried to hard sometimes. While I was genuinely amused often. I also found myself growing after another joke hit with a loud thud and clang. The humor was inconsistent. I enjoyed it enough that I will try the next one. ( )

This book was interesting. It was enjoyable to read and paid some cute homages to Star Trek tropes and characters. That said, it fell prey to the subversion of the subverted trope pitfall. By which I mean, the Captain is a creepy misogynistic douche. Yes, he's intentionally over the top and clearly making fun of the trope of douchebag macho captains in early sci-fi, but you still end up with a protagonist who is demeaning and creepy towards all of the women on his crew which made the story a lot less enjoyable than it could've been. This is not a book for me, sadly. There are good Star Trek parodies, like the Orville... and then there are the not so good ones. This is the later.

The characters are horrible. The story is ridiculous. The crew and captain act like a bunch of baboons on crack.

If that's supposed to be funny, it's not the kind of funny I like. Then again, I don't laugh at fort jokes either.
