The Exes, an up-and-coming indie band, is made up of people who used to be lovers. The ultimate example of an immature author and self-styled hipster's glorified fantasy autobiography. Lots of lame attempts at pop music literacy, Boston culture, and the musician/artist's life. A nauseating read for anyone but scene-lit poseurs. ( )

This was an enjoyable read that reminded me of what it was like to be in one's twenties. ( )

Kennedy's writing rarely flags, and you can't help falling for her characters. Like rock-and-roll itself, they are both sloppy and eloquent, vulgar and earnest, dopey and poetic. ''The Exes'' is all those things, too -- and a lot more fun than dancing to architecture.
